All four teams arrived early Wednesday morning in Holland after a lengthy flight from DC. They spent two hours walking around the world famous city of Amsterdam, out to the picturesque seaside town of Volendam for lunch, followed by a quick stop at the Zaanse Schans windmills. After that we all checked into the hotel and sports school in Papendal, a light recovery session on the grass and then into bed for a much needed sleep.
The following day the teams trained in the morning, got the chance to see the 1st team professional team of Vitesse train and then went on a tour of the big Vitesse stadium and into the town of Arnhem (A Bridge Too Far) for some shopping. Later in the day the boys went out to see the Virginia 2003 and 2005 teams play their first games.
The 2003 girls, playing a VV Eldenia team one year older, came out on top 2-0. While the `05’s, also playing a team one year older, tied 1-1. Both were good competitive matches and a good chance for the girls to shake off the jet lag and get their legs under them. The club of Eldenia were excellent hosts and very pleased to play us. The girls all developed friendships with the opponents as they shared pictures and laughter after the game.
Today, we travel to the town on Utrecht for some site seeing and then all four teams kick off tonight against the club of DTS EDE.
